Alwan Pharmacy is a PCAB Accredited Compounding Pharmacy.

The PCAB® Seal of Accreditation is a system of standards created by leading experts in the compounding pharmacy field. We are honored to be the FIRST pharmacy in Central Illinois to earn this new accreditation. It confirms our commitment to providing safe, personalized solutions that meet your medical needs.

Our accreditation status as a PCAB Accredited® compounding pharmacy shows we are dedicated to protecting our patients by practicing safe, high-quality compounding. Due to the increasing demand for compounded prescriptions, there has been a need for an enhanced, profession-wide system of standards by which each compounding pharmacy can test its quality processes. While a compounding pharmacy is regulated by the state, PCAB® Accreditation is an even more comprehensive way to ensure it has undergone the profession’s most rigorous review and inspection measures.

To earn the designation of “PCAB Accredited® compounding pharmacy,” we completed an extensive application and submission process that was reviewed by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board. Our compounding policies
and procedures were then reviewed by professionals,
and an extensive on-site inspection was conducted
by compounding experts. Only when these stringent
evaluations were completed did PCAB officially grant
Alwan Pharmacy the PCAB® Seal of Accreditation.

Services

Compounding

With a physician's consent, we can change the strength of a medication, alter its form to make it easier for the patient to ingest, and add flavor to make it taste better. The medication form can also be changed. We are able to make sublingual troche or lozenges, a lollipop, or a transdermal gel. For those patients who are having a difficult time swallowing a capsule, a suspension can be made instead.

Vet Compounding

Animals can be very difficult to treat with medications, but veterinary compounding can help overcome some of those common difficulties. A prescription can be made into a tasty treat that the pet will gladly take. We can also alter the strength of a medication so that it is appropriate for the pet's size.

Like their owners, animals are individuals with their own special needs. They come in all different sizes and dispositions. Compounding can help overcome common and unique difficulties when it comes to administering a pet's medication. The resurgence of veterinary compounding in the last few years provides valuable benefits to today's pet owners.

Sterile Compounding

USP, and ASHP guidelines classify sterile compounding from non-sterile ingredients as the highest risk category and recommend procedures take place in an ISO class clean room cabinet inside a class 10,000 Clean Room. At Alwan Pharmacy we work very hard to exceed these expectations. We rely upon specifically trained and experienced pharmacists in aseptic compounding for consistently accurate products.

To date we have compounded:

  • Intrathecals
  • Ophthalmic (eye) drops
  • Corticotrophin

Hospice Compounding

As the elderly population grows, the need for compassionate hospice care becomes more and more relevant. At the heart of hospice care is the belief that each person has the right to an end of life which is pain-free and dignified. Compounding offers options for unique drug combinations that can be prepared to allow patients to continue to live normally and comfortably. Since many hospice patients have trouble taking their medications, transdermal gels, flavored troches (placed between the cheek and gum), suppositories, oral suspensions or even lollipops are some of the many alternatives to traditional dosage forms. Relief can be tailored to a patient's specific needs.
